I think gas cartridges were used way back when, but vintage issues aside, paying for air and disposable cartidges seems absurd, as well as violates the "bike ethic". I always figured that most riders placed above convenience things like self-sufficiency, using your bod, cool mechanical devices, and minimal impacts to the environment. Otherwise, why bother hauling your butt around all these miles.

What is wrong with gas cartridge's? That is all I have used for several years. Who needs a pump? Richard Rose (Toledo, Ohio)

I use a variety of Silca Pumps on my vintage bikes with pump braze-ons. I am curious, what do riders in the group use on bikes without braze on pump pegs or clips? I am loath to put pump clips on my older British bikes and have resorted to carrying (gasp) a gas cartridge!!! Any good pocket pumps out there?
cheers
