Reg Harris obviously had a number of bikes made for him during all the years he rode for Raleigh. A number are in museums, either on display or hidden away, and some are in private hands. Raleigh made special bikes for works riders, unlike anything that was offered to the public, although they did bear some relationship to the Record Ace. There is a tendency to think that any 22" works bike has some connection to Reg Harris.

The sprinters' bikes had internal and external reinforcements and were quite heavy with their steel crankset, stem, bars and seat pin. Hubs were typically large flange Airlite Continentals - Ray Booty who was the first Brit to ride 100 miles (out and back) in less than 4 hours had one of these works Raleighs which he rode with a fixed wheel or Sturmey Archer hub gear - I think he used the latter in his 100 mile record ride.

I shall be checking out one of Reg's bikes in the next month or so and plan to take some measurements and photos for comparison with my own Raleigh. I could post the pics somewhere if they are of interest.
