I agree, Jan(Peek a boo!)

Meeting King Eddy and Greg LeMond will always be on-topic here! I had fun those guys and seeing other retired USA racers too and frequently chatting about old bikes. Sorry I missed seeing you there.. I just rolled in (It's wednesday night) and I am tired but pleased at this years show. No block busters but a good positive feel for the industry despite turmoil all around.

I tried to take pictures of lugged bikes (missed a few, which is odd as there were not many) I will process and edit those pics and put them up on the site ASAP.

Things that pop in my mind right now about the show (that pertain to our topic area):

- Sad, sad Masi bikes. Made in Taiwan, aluminum, even used the old model names for these newbies i.e. "Volumetric" is a welded aluminum bike as is Grand Criterium.. So sad. I guess that is the cruel world of business though...

- "Hetchins" and "Gillot" bikes by Mark Joynt of Omega. Kent, England. This relatively young guy claimed vociferously that he made a search and found no legal registration of these marques in the UK and they subsequently have taken all the legal steps to properly acquire them. This is bad news for ensuring protection of the lineage of Hetchins. The frames on display were called Magnum Opus models and were very close copies of the older 1960s lug design.. Newer versions have differed from these old styles but Joynt had replicated the old style quite nicely. Other details were a bit off though.. Now it will be interesting if the Hetchins Company as we have known it to date (David Miller, etc.) can successfully pursue this challenge and "save" their claim to the brand.

- A very nice "bikini" lugged Pegoretti was in the Gita booth. Very classic indeed.

- Grant Peterson's latest brain child, the Rambouillete (spelling?) was a cool color, a soft pearl orange. It is basically a road version of the Atlantis which is really a mountain bike... Nice looking though.

- True Temper had a new super light steel tube set but Reynolds did not even have a steel frame or bike in their booth! Arrgh!

- We had maybe 16 folks show up for the CR group gathering at the Hideaway bar at Treasure Island. I dutiful took notes of who was there and then lost the notes. Doh! It was relaxed and fun, no big fights over Masses or Flying Scots or being off topic! Thanks to all who showed up..

I will tell more when I recuperate!
