This one says Dayton Cycles London on the ornate headbadge and came out of our local municipal skip in Dundee, Scotland.

It's a welded frame but does not appear to be 531. The welds are not smoothed off like the two fillet brazed bikes I have: the tubes look as if they have been butted against each other. The frame is quite light but doesn't have the appearance of high quality. The forks have quite a wide D profile with a sort of raised strip running down their outward-facing surfaces.

It came with an odd collection of parts. GB Coureur sidepull brakes with Super Hood levers, GB spearpoint alloy stem, rusty chromed handlebars, Nicklin three-arm crankset with 47-tooth chainring. Campagnolo Valentino Extra derailleur with four-speed freewheel and Milremo rims (the ones with the concentric grooves on the braking surfaces) and Normandy hubs. The saddle said Viking and the pedals appear to be cheap steal rat traps.

My first inclincation was to strip this bike of parts and return the frame to the bin. I thought I'd better ask in case I was about to do something I'd later regret.

Bruce (whose sons have Christened him "Iama bin Raker") Robbins
