Most bikes have enough seat post in the seat tube so that the seat post can be raised high enough to fix it to the stand by the seat post. Many serious riders will have all the measurements handy and/or taped inside their travel case to set their bike up to the exact positions and lengths prior to working on them or breaking them down. This comes in very handy when doing a full break down for maintenance or for traveling or shipping. Having fiddled with my bikes more over the past year than any other period of time that I can remember I know by heart that my seat height is 28 1/4 and tip of the saddle to the bars is 20 1/8. One can always put a piece of tape on the bars or seat post to mark the depth of insertion.
