Hi all-
Arghhh... Ok, so I have been watching this thread and know what one is supposed to do to 'not risk it' but this one hurts. I have had my trusty Merckx every so lightly clamped at the top tube (Yea, I know) in my Ultimate Pro stand while waiting for time to take it up to Rainbow Cycle Craft for a respray.
Well, I get up there today and pointed out the dimple in the top tube suffered in a crash and then noticed a slight deformity and another very small dimple. Looked even further and your can actually see the the cinch jaw marks. Errrr... I barely cinched it but I did remove the crankset and BB last night and the torque may have done it:(
So, I can guarantee that I will never, ever clamp on any tube ever again! Brother Baylis, what is my penance??? Oh, contact me off list when you get a chance to talk about my project...
