Subject: [CR]Re: Steel barrelled Campagnolo hub

Thanks to all for their contributions on re-plating the steel barrelled Campag hub. The general consensus is that it's not too difficult to separate the flanges from the barrel and have it rechromed.

Chuck's suggestion of using a torch to heat the alloy flanges to make separation easier raised one or two eyebrows. It was suggested that this could make the alloy very brittle if not done carefully. A better solution. I was told, would be dipping the hub in a hot oil bath.

I checked the inside faces of the cone lock nuts and the hubs appears to date back to 1961. What I still don't know, though, is if the hubs have any value or would rechroming them be a waste of money?

Thanks, again, for all the information.
