Bruce, it can give a nice finish if done properly. Ask the sprayer to use a slow drying lacquer as the final coat and give it plenty of time to harden (weeks is best). His oven baking is probably low temperature and is only done to accelerate the drying and get it out of his shop quicker. Preparation is the most important part. If it looks bad before you paint it will look worse after!
