Subject: [CR]Legnano Gran Premio

Hi,

I'm relatively new to the list and owner of a beat up old Legnano Gran Premio (so I've been told) with chromed 531 Legnano-stamped-crowned forks and a 531 tubeset.

I'm not sure of the year. I'd guess late 70s or early 80s, but this will end up probably as a fixed-gear or single-speed bike. Is it a respectable quality frame?

Can anyone on this list assist me in figuring out the date of manufacture of the frame? I can describe decals (those left - white-edged black lettering) or get a serial number. Thanks in advance.

Also, does anyone know much about Light Race or possibly Race Light headsets from the early to mid 70s? I presume it's a British make, but not sure. It's of steel construction and has toothed lockrings. Does that make the headset tightening and adjusting procedure easier or worse?

I really appreciate the information revealed on this list... as a classic lightweight rider (but not much of a mechanic or restorer) I love to hear more about various makes and parts. Compared to the list membership am generally ignorant. That's changing slowly and I'm glad to know of it.

Thanks all,

Ray --
