The Flying Gate design of frame has a vertical tube from the bottom bracket to the top tube. The seat tube is a short length of tube further back. There are two sets of stays one pair to the top of the seat tube and one pair to the top of the vertical tube. They were built by the Baines Bros in Bradford, Yorks between 1935 and 1953. In the 1970s the design was resurected by Trevor Jarvis and is still made in tiny numbers as a TJ Cycles Flying Gate. The one on sale is from about 1947.
