For Sale: Two 70's mostly original 531 main tube British bikes - Dawes & Raleigh

Dawes Galaxy, 23" c to c - This was a bike I bought a few years ago as a 2nd bike when I did not want to ride my International & before I thought of my bikes as vintage. I'm the 2nd owner & I put very few miles on it.

It is green w/ matching original green rack & fenders w/ mudflap. B15 saddle - VG condition, GB bars & stem, delrin Simplex derailleurs (ft not cracked, I did put a long cage delrin Simplex derailleur on it to get some lower gears, the lowest cog is a 34t & it works but would be happier w/ a 32t). Stronglight cottered steel crank. Original Weinmann brakeset & w/ VG white hoods. One pedal cap missing (heard it come off in heavy traffic). The wheels are replacements Shimano hub & aluminum rims - maybe these replaced tubulars which were common at the time. Good tires. Fork has braze-on for lamp bracket, bracket included.

The frame paint & nice foil seat decals are VG. Dawes, Galaxy & 531 are cracked & flaking (on top of the clear coat). The green paint over the chrome fork is flaking off (did not adhere well to the chrome). Chrome overall is good, but there is some flaking on the chrome stays.

All bearings except pedals repack very few miles ago.

I have made an effort to point out the flaws but overall the bike is a very nice example of a mid level British bike of its day.

$175 + shipping, can get photos if interested

Raleigh Super Course, 23" c to c - brown (coffee), painted Nervex lugs, B15 saddle (good w/ a deep scratch on top, missing Brooks badge), Weinmann brakeset w/ good white Carlton brake hoods (how do these things stay nice for so long), Stronglight cottered steel crank, Simplex delrin derailleurs (ft not cracked), GB stem & bars(?). Aluminum rims (did it originally come w/ tubulars?). Good tires. Only other non-original parts are the front skewer, which should be replaced, and pedals.

Raleigh (script) & Super Course decals VG, 531 & Carlton (lower seat tube & fork) decals cracked but better that most.

Paint looks good (Raleigh paint jobs tend to hold up nicely), misc scratches, but overall VG. One larger scratched area on top tube (about 1", probably want to touch up). All of the chrome does have light surface rust, would look great after a Quick-glo cleaning (rust comes off when you rub it with your finger).

The Raleigh Super Course has a very nice ride without paying up for an International.

The bike does need a good polish & overhaul.

$125 + shipping, can get photos if interested.
