On the borderline of classic, certainly not lightweight, I remember some interest a while ago in children's size racing bike. My neighbors have a 24 in. wheel Schwinn varsity type (not exactly the varsity) heavy frame, Ashtabula crank 24 in. wheel maes bar in good shape Schwinn for probably close to free plus shipping. Just finished up cleaning and lubing a junk find setting in my basement for several years. It is, a JC Higgins from Austria a Sears brand three speed with JC Higgins stamped three speed hub shell. Looks suspiciously like Sturmey Archer. The cotter pins exceed the diameter of my standard cotter gauge -I forget if this was usual on three speeds. In this one case, I was able to remove the cotter pins by using 12 in. channel lock pliers which on one side gripped the cotter and on the other side gripped a socket which hid the but end of the cotter and allowed to be pushed into the socket and this was successful.

It does have a very nice chrome topped fork. The frame is reasonably light. I got lucky and found an aluminum long seatpost in my junk collection which happened to fit the tubing-25.4 mm. The tubing sounds light (the highly scientific and extremely accurate tap it with your fingernails test) but I do not recall 25.4 being even straight gauge Reynolds. My initial goal was to use it as a "I don't care what happens to it bicycle" but I cleaned it up sufficiently that it may now be a keeper.
