I think" mint" may be the only classification we all may agree on , can a NOS part be mint? maybe . Can a NIP part be mint , probably . I think the other ones are open to much argument , the NRA has a list of conditions for grading firearms , but one mans "fair" is probably anothers good . It also depends on who is buying and and who is selling . I think the $600 dollar simplex with chips in the decal and a replaced wheel is in very nice condition but not mint . Springs? , springs set under tension every day , the springs under some brooks saddles , the springs that hold the valves closed in your automobile , do they take a "set" I dont know , do I take the strain off the deraillers on my bikes and leave the chain on the little chainring and the smallest cog , you bet . Do I leave rounds in a magazine for any length of time , no . Maybe there is truth in the folklore about springs taking a "set" I don't know but IM not taking any chances . just my $.02 worth .
