I have a Romic from the early 80s , the sport touring bike "custommade" for me. I don't know how custom it was-- I gave him seat and top tube measurements and seat angle. I alos wanted it chromed ( I was doing a fair amount of airplane travel and didn't want chipped paint. The chrome was thin and the top tube sloped, so I imagine he used whatever lug came to hand for the head tube. That being said the bike rides beautifully and comfortably. I am also grateful that he warned me away from Campy Victory which most mid-high bikes were specing that year and said that he found Shimano 600 performed a helluva lot better for less money. Brave words in 1983! His wife was the socially skilled one, who assured me that everyone was oohing and aahing over my chromed frame. Maybe, but certainly not Ray who clearly saw it as Eastern effeteism and decadence. Today that bike sports beautifully filligreed needle work in its chrome and a C-Record group. I guess a trubute To Ray who built bikes which ride long and hard. Alan Bernstein ( can you believe confused buds are coming up in New York City)
