Not sure how dumb this question is - I'll leave it to you'll to advise!

When assembling friction shifters does anybody use or recommend lubing the friction points with oil or grease. Yeah, yeah, I know, they're called friction shifters but my Campagnolo NR levers didn't shift as smooth as my Simplex Criterium units so I placed a very thin coat of heavy wheel bearing grease on the nylon/plastic bushings and aside from having to crank down the shift lever bolts even more than usual, they do shift smoother and have yet to jump out of gear under heavy pressure.

Am I nuts for doing this or have others done this too?
