I cycled down to the race with a friend from our local club, The Baltimore Bike Club. Almost immediately we ran into Richard Sachs. My friend Bob told him I was one of his biggest fans, I had my Sachs tourer with me. Richard told him I had one of his biggest bikes. The Junior race had just finished and Richard was motoring. His team was gathered next to a really nice spot for seeing the race.

The bike handling skills were amazing. Just watching those folks flying down what looked like 3:1 slopes with a sharp bottom and tight turns, the dismounts and remounts without slowing down, just awesome! The site for the race was excellent for watching, with almost 70% of the course visible from almost all spots and easy to walk around. The announcers were strolling with remote mikes and did a great job of keeping the crowd psyched up. Great for bike and people watching, some really nice lugged bikes, and great for seeing bikes heard of but never seen before, not necessarily before '85. I'm sorry I missed so many friends who I'm now finding out were there at the same time. A really fun day.
