From my experience the online photo albums blow chunks and are more irritating than they're worth.
Most service providers give you 2-10 mgs of free space with your monthly account. Easy enough to upload pics and access with an address; for instance, here's a pic placed on my free 2 mgs from aol:

Add the use of a simple web page layout program like GoLive with links and you can build your own photo album that will operate much better than the crap you get for free.
I'm not a web designer, but the simple stuff ain't rocket science.
