That's the bewildering thing about this Campy product. Campy never made an oversized tap. I remember researching this about 8 years ago. I couldn't find any manufacturer (Var, Cobra, Cycle, Silvan, Park, etc.) that made/had ever made oversized taps. A likely conclusion might be that the OS cups would simply replace standard cups in a bb shell that has become a very sloppy fit for whatever reason. But OS cups are still too large to be screwed all the way into a sloppy bb shell. I too, am still perplexed on Campy's mindset on how OS cups were to be used.

Just when I thought I'd heard of everything, someone one this list comes up with something I never imagined existed. What was the purpose of the OS cups? Were they to allow a damaged BB to be retapped to a larger diameter? If so, there must have been a standard tap size with which such cups were used. Did Campy make such taps? Did anyone else?

Chuck,
I seem to remember the OS cups designated with a "5". So an English cup would read 1.375 instead of 1.370, and an Italian would read 36.5 instead of 36. I'm not 100% sure on this, maybe I just dreamed it, but I have sold them in the past, and I still have some here. They're buried so I can't just grab em to look at.
Attn: Andrew Gills. I know you have/had some OS cups. Can you take a look at yours and shed some light?

Campagnolo made regular and oversize threaded cups. You probably have the oversize cups. They are not marked in any way; you have to measure them to identify them (or try to thread them into a normal threaded bottom bracket :)
