Yea, yea, yea. Lambert, aero pumps, etc. I remember all the high end
junk too. How about the low end lightweight stuff? Most of this is in the
trash now. A real collector might think of looking for these today. Might
find some as evidence in civil suits. The rest is forms the bottom layer
of most 25 year old land fills.
Altenburger center pull brakes (never been known to stop any bike), low
end Shimano knock-off changers (chain wrap meant just that, wrap around the
axle, spokes, etc.), CPSC mandated retrofitted "safety levers" (that was
when the feds made us take well working Weinnman brakes and apply extension
levers so the brakes would not work at all), early Kenda high pressure tires
(I'm partially deaf in one ear from those things. Never been proven to stay
seated above 40PSI.), any steel chain ring ( the only thing true about them
was the tool you used to straighten them}, Ross "high end" steel rims (Can
you say pretzel?), anything hung on a Kent, ever see a Wald headset? You
guys missed out on the real fun in the 70's. Dale, Sheldon and a few others
know what I'm talking about. Back then most of us had to sell at least 100
low end lightweights for every high end lightweight. We would have all
starved waiting for someone to come in looking for an all Campy or Dura Ace
bike. Aaah! The "classic light weight era". The Campagnolo we enjoyed
back then was paid for in skinned knuckles and Rolaids. I have the scars to
prove it. Steve (still riding the best you could buy from the 70's)
