I vaguely remember from high school a fellow with a Bob Jackson with Campagnolo dropouts who had a 30 tooth cog on a regular nouvo record rear derailleur with Sugino Mighty cranks. I do not remember the chain wheel combination. Chain stay length was recreational. Also, the dropout type might matter. Again, a vague recollection, but the dropout type might also affect the derailleur capacity. I believe that a SunTour VGT Luxe (which I believe could handle less teeth than a SunTour VGT) could take a 34 tooth cog with a SunTour dropout but only a 32 tooth cog on different to dropouts.
