MTB shoes and pedals would solve the "running in and out of stores" issue, no?

Hi Steve
I always used Dettos shoes when I started (late 80s) and up to the point at which I couldn't find shoes to fit any longer. I always use period (modern) shoes nowadays with clipless on my bikes I ride. I do have pedals and clips but only for the looks on my classic bikes. One problem I have is the fact I use a size 13, the 47 dettos don't fit anymore and I have never come across a older classic shoe that will fit my feet. This is the reason I stay modern with shoes. I still use pedals and clips on my classics that I use to jam around the town in the summer though because you can't jump off and run in and out of stores with clipless, and let's face it, they are simply easier when running errands!!
