Cinelli changed hands in 1978, so it was time to come up with a more contemporary logotype.

The Campagnolo derailleur body stamped with "Nuovo Record / Super Record" in sans serif letters and crosshatched background was ten years old at that time and it was time for a product update and new, more contemporary look. The design of the graphics on the derailleur body were pretty much unchanged from the Gran Sport in 1951, so I'd say a change was long overdue.
