Well I'm now knee-deep in the restoration of the little ladies Orly French bike. Fun!
The Rigida rims are spotted with rust and the spokes rust mightily too (while you watch!) as you're working on the rims. I have tried a bit of naval jelly sprayed on then cleaned off, worked with Scotchbrite and metal cleaner, etc. The rims get smoother to the touch, but the little dots of rust are still there.
Does one give up at this point, considering the bike is from the 70's and that's just *the way it is*? Or just put in billions of hours? I tried Sheldon Brown's site and a brief archive search of CR but couldn't come up with wisdom on this problem, though it must have been discussed before I feel quite sure.
Thanks to all, Paulie Davis Where it's back to winter in Los Angeles!
