jerry. i don't belong in this post. but i was a boyer fan long ago. along with mike neel, tom oficer, and perhaps, george mount, he paved the way for the modern era of yanks racing in europe. i believe he finished 10th in his first tdf, the 1st american to ever compete in it. boyer was complete class and composure, and a role model for anyone aspiring to move to europe and compete in the real arena. the most phenomenal thing i EVER saw at a bike race, topping even lemond's last stage tt victory over fignon, was boyer winning the 1980 coors classic by lapping the field THREE TIMES at north boulder park criterium, thus gaining back over 2 minutes, (i think), over the columbian antonio londonio. i was there and couldn't believe it. he started the stage in 2nd place, and secured the gc overall with an unbelievable ride. you are right. he hasn't been given his just due. e-RICHIE http://www.richardsachs.com

I think Boyer deserves a lot more attention that he has received for
paving the way for later American riders in European racing. I don't
remember hearing him mentioned even once in connection with Lance's
triumph in the TdF the last two years.
