Dear listees,

I've just finished reading "The Giro d'Italia - Coppi verseus Bartali at the 1949 Tour of Italy", by Dino Buzzati, translated by Julia Amari for VeloPress. I am both impressed and disappointed by this volumn. In it's original language, Buzzati's narrative is absolutly brilliant... it is a bit less-so in this translation, and the historical references are frequently inadequate for the American baby-boomer to fully understand.

Therefore, I've decided to attempt my own adaptation, adding a bit more of the historical information, explained in more depth. Those of us born after WW2, and outside Europe, can't hope to understand the brief references to hunger and poverty, so I will look to other sources for better descriptions.

As this "progetto" will be bit off topic for the CR list, plese let me know if you'd like to be added to the mailing list. I promise lots of quirky misspeelings, blatant emphasis on all things Bianchi and Legnano, and occasional references to baby lambs dancing in the water trough.
