Friends, I just went and examined an actual Reynolds 501 label. It says "CROMALLOY-M" below the 501 script. Actually, this is the case for both the label on the main triangle and the one on the forks. This is from a 1983 Peugeot, which I suspect is typical of 501 bikes. In fact, I remember seeing tandems at Mel Pinto's showroom (LeJeune brand and his own label, which were really the same frames) which were made from 501 and my recollection is that they had the same tubing label as my Peugeot.
