Dear List,
I would be interested to hear people's stories about abandoned classics -- chained to a post for years, dumpsters, out on the median in front of a house, etc. and whether or not you eventually succumbed to temptation and made off with it, left the bike behind (maybe it's still there!), rescued it from that rack, dump, or whatever.
I started thinking about this because I pass a chained-up, soot-covered wonder in downtown Los Angeles every day (but it's not real classic or I might be asking some questions). I'm interested in total freebies here, not those thrift store $5.00 finds y'all make me jealous with.
Please reply to me privately and I'll post a compilation in about a week so that folks who want to can read the stories in one convenient spot. Maybe there will be some awards. :-)
