From the Mavic Timeline:

The first time that this treatment has been used on bicycle rims, it would be seen later that no high-end bike would be seriously considered that didi not offer this type of rim."
Catalog listed weights: Blue SSC -- 395gr Gray SSC Type Paris-Roubaix -- 400gr
The Gray was still offered (with change of label graphics) through the 1990s
