I didn't realize there was still racing on cinder tracks that late - other than special events like the Little 500. I do remember racing on flat asphalt tracks, though. I grew up in New York City where, before the Kissena Park Velodrome was built, track events were conducted on this sort of in Flushing Meadow Park. Later, I saw a similar track in France, although it actually had slight banking. This must have been in St. Quentin, which apparently was not wealthy enough to build a "proper" velodrome.
