I have a set of Universal Super 68 calipers on my Falcon fixie. The calipers, which were a dirt-cheap bargain at the Cirque (another reason to come next year!), came without pads. I scrounged in my parts bin for what I had handy - in this case, a pair of Scott Matthausers on the front, a pair of grey Kool-Stops on the rear.

In my defense - the last bike I had with Universals had original, stock pads which were worthless, possibly because they were a quarter of a century old. If I were doing a bike that was to be used for both display and use, I'd consider using Matthauser pads for riding and swap them out for the originals for display ...

The brakes work very well indeed. The quick release is neat looking, fun to operate, positive action and opens up the arms quite nicely. Since I am using it with different levers (didn't get those!), I do not have a barrel adjuster, but that's not such a biggie for me.

Good feel to the brakes, pretty substantial. Can you tell I like them?
