Bicycling! ran 2 different ads for the Motobecane team champ in '82. The first one had a really gorgeous color photo of the bike on the top third of the page, with a spec list and a small photo of Robert Alban finishing, what, third in the '81 tour(?) at the bottom of the page. I still have a crummy xerox of the ad (I was a starving grad student then).
There was a second ad later on with 2 black&white photos, one showing the team champ and the other a lower model.
Two ads in Bicycling! - s'pose that adds up to $25K?

Nice Find for 40 bones!
I only seen one as a complete bike and that was at DIN ind, the once West coast distributor for Motobecane which is long gone! And for sures there was no other that was ever brought into stock as far as I can remember. I think it was some sort of a team issue do to some of the different parts that it was equipped with. And I think it was one of the 2 or three models that was lugged!!!!...........I think this was'82.
Weight was 20. 2 lbs for a mid sized bike.
These are to other parts that it I remember seeing this bike with.
(1) SSC rims were hard grey, 28 front 32 rear.
(2) Saddle was IDEAL with Ti or alloy rails and Ti seat-clamp, straight capped alloy post.
(3) Freewheel Maillard alloy/Ti.
(4) Brakes, Modolo Master pro.
Question to the group? Does anyone have a Bicycling magazine from '82 to '84? I would like to know if there was any ads for Motobecane and stating who was the suppliers were (was!). If so was DIN mentioned!......................Kind of hit me funny..............From what I remember, DIN was given by Motobecane a advertising budget of $ 25.000 to promote the line-up and I only remember seeing one 2x2'' or 3x3'' ad!
No promotions!...No sales!...No focus!.....................No more motobecane!.......At least for Motobecane, DIN!
BC............wishing I grabbed that team when it was offered to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
