Subject: [CR]4 Piers/Bastille Day Ride/July 14th/Southern California/Mark Your Calendar

Greetings One and All! The 4 Piers ride on Bastille Day is now just a week away on Saturday, July 14th. This ride covers approximately 39 easy miles from/near the Belmont (Shore) Pier area to the Seal Beach, Huntington Beach and then Newport Beach Pier and then back. The last hop to the Balboa Pier and the Wedge is optional. We will stop for coffee ect. at/around the Newport Pier and head back to my humble abode for lunch, bicycle 'show and tell' then tall tales from way back when. Promises to be fun for all! I'll provide refreshments before and Lunch after the ride...We will meet at 9:30 AM and rollout at 10 AM. I'd like to go with a French theme ...I'm planning to ride a late 1950's Terrot 6 speed. As always we like to keep the ride to friction shifting bicycles from waaaay back up to the mid-eighties. Older bikes are more likely to win a prize...PRIZE!! ...yes Virginia there will be prizes given for the oldest bicycle, the longest distance traveled to the ride, and some sort of all participant opportunity. The start location is close to the intersection of the 405, 605 and 22 Fwy's just north of the Los Angeles/ Orange County line in Sunny Southern Calif. This is a "No-Drop" ride and we will regroup as needed. The ride is flat mostly along the beach bikepath but we will divert as needed in the "brain dead tourist" zones. It's best to show up in a timely manner as beach parking slots go quick as the morning progresses...address & directions will be provided to those interested in participating.

****Disclaimer****The ride itself is totally optional and I make no guarentee, *warantee or prediction of the outcome(I learned that from Larry Parker)...wear *a helmet and follow all traffic laws and much fun will be had by all.

P.S. Sturmey-Archer geared bicycles are warmly welcomed and quite suitable for the 'Stately Pace' we maintain for much of the ride.
