The club I road with , The San Francisco Wheelmen were pretty loyal to one bike shop in the ' 60s , the American Cyclery , tire deliveries were not consistent and normally all he sold were Clements . A Del Mundo was $12.95 a Criterium Seta Extra was $15.00 and the Pista was about $20 Most of us road Del Mundos for every day use and changed to wheels with Criterium Setas or Seta Xtras for racing . The Del Mundo was a wonderful tire , Id ride them today if I could and there were no low lifes breaking bottles . There was a fellow in our club who would replace the rim strip for you when it wore out , he could even replace short sections of the silk casing if it was cut badly . I lived close to the shop and would repair tires for extra money , $2.00 a tire . we normally carried one spare and a patch kit and only on one occasion did I have to sit on the side of the road and patch a tire . Today I swear by Michelin clinchers . Jim Mccoin
