Circa a decade ago I read an article in Bicyling or Bicycling Magazine (can't remember which) on the comparative advantages of lugged and lugless construction. Dave Tesch built up a couple of road bikes up for this test. Much to my surprise, the fillet brazed bike actually had less deflection at the bottom bracket than the lugged bike; it was slightly heavier. None of the differences measured were such that the riders could discern them. Jon
