Hi Gang,
Not strictly period correct, Dale, sorry. But I thought that a number of members may be interested in viewing a modern classic.
Last Friday, I picked up my new 30th Anniversary Mariposa from Mike Barry. The bike has been done in the French 650B touring/randonneur style, but with modern mtb wheels and Campy Daytona 9 speed triple group. The lugs are modified first generation Rivendell (the last sets that Grant had, I presume).
The very next morning after picking it up, I rode it in a club century with our local randonneur club. The bike is MUCH better than I had hoped for. The fat (1.65") 26" tires are wonderfully comfortable, yet the bike is not a stone by any means.
At one point on the century, I sucked the wheel of a tandem down a steep hill before sweeping past in a set of bends. The bike showed that rare combination of stability and precision that just invites letting the reigns go.
If you can't tell already, I'm thrilled with this bike!
I've listed some jpegs at: http://www.fototime.com/
Cheers,
Larry Strung
