I was commuting home from work the other day when a bright red large
bicycle struck my eye. It was obviously Italian with some modern
Campagnolo parts. I caught up to the rider and looked at the name-what is
a "confetti"? Well on closer inspection it was a Confente. I have never
seen one and the rider was very decent and we stopped and I examined the
bicycle. He bought it in New Jersey in 1980 and has been riding ever
since. It now has 15 speeds and a long cage derailleur. There are
scratches and chips and crash marks but it is in overall very nice
condition. He paid just over $2000 when he bought it new. He obviously
likes the bicycle and it is a regular user for him. I told him about the
recent eBay bidding up to $8000 but he did not seem particularly
concerned or impressed. I suppose one person's mantle piece is another is
another person's daily rider. We parted, I was glad to see one of these
bikes and now I no longer call them confetti (he politely gave me the
proper pronunciation). Happy cycling.
