Mark,

It's good to hear you acquired that frame after admiring it for many years. I think you've got all your facts on it right as far as I can tell. I read Brian's replay and agree with all that. Don't really have anything to add, except I'll be glad to try to provide more when I see it. Thanks for staying in touch. I how you feel about these bikes, I recently purchased a clean original 1976 Masi that I painted when new. It brings back a bit of my past each time I ride it. Enjoy yours!

Hello out there CR members:

I have now acquired the one MASI Gran Criterium that has always been my very favorite for almost 30 years. Someday I hope to have pictures for everyone to see, but for now I am more interested in learning a little more about it. This particular frame set was purchased from a S.F. Bay area shop in the early 1970's, prior to '75 I'm sure, and I think '73 or '74. I remember riding behind it in pace lines on club rides back then. It's serial number, or the only number on it, is M60. It is medium gray metallic, with a fine metallic gold head-tube, and yellow enamel in the lug cut-outs, which I believe is a KAS team paint scheme. It's previous owner removed the seat-tube and down-tube decals right after he purchased it, much to my protests, but the Faleiro Masi signature is intact, as is the MASI Milano head-tube decal. Brian Baylis, or anyone else who may have MASI knowledge, can you help me date this frame? And can you help me determine if this is truly a KAS team issued MASI, or if it was just a standard paint combination? By the way, it still has the original Campy NR headset, BB set, and seatpost binder bolt, but I haven't removed anything yet since i've only had it in my possession for less than a week. Oh yea, Jim Cunningham, if you're reading this, this is the one I mentioned a few months ago in an e-mail. Once I determine the frame's year of manufacture, I will be looking for some correct Campy NR components for a buildup, but I will send another e-mail when I'm ready for that. That's all for now, please help if you can. Many thanks in advance.
