Subject: [CR]GITANE-"Tour de France"-Service Course

Hi Tim, I recently bought a Gitane Super Corsa, which also has/had a SERVICE COURSE transparancy or decal on the top tube. The SERVICE COURSE is barely visible in yellow lettering on one side of the top tube near the head tube. The Tour de France model that belonged to your grandmother would be a mid level model by Gitane. The list price in 1971 for a Gitane Tour de France was about $225.00 from Mel Pinto Imports,Inc. of Falls Church, Virginia.Mel Pinto Imports-MPI is still in business for wholesale(dealers only).Have you LBS or a reputable frame painter/builder contact him for you, at (703) 750-1945.Mr. Pinto most certainly has Gitane decals in stock but expect to pay top dollar.Maybe Chuck Schmidt has some copies of 1970's Gitane catalogs on his website. The Tour de France is a good mid level frame and would make a very good rider if the frame fits...Yours truly,Martin O.
