I'm still trying to figure out why manufacturers make current steel-framed road bikes with TIG or fillet brazed construction. In the olden days (late '70s for me), no one would even _think_ about riding anything without lugged construction (exceptions exist, e.g., certain Schwinns). TIG technology was certainly available back then so what makes it acceptable now compared to the olden days? Different tubing materials, new techniques, smart marketing vs stupid consumers?
