What replacement fork are you using? The mantle sounds like a good place for the origional. There does not appear to be any consistency to the breakage sites. I have heard reports of the forks breaking in four different locations: dropouts, fork blade to crown attachment point, steerer tube to fork crown, upper steerer tube splitting at the machined key way.
