when i lived in england, we used wheel carriers to transport our race wheels to the race. they were kinda' like cone wrenches that fit on the front wheel and allowed another wheel to be fastened to each side of the front fork. the trip to and from the event was done on the training wheels with the race wheels hanging off the front of the fork. e-RICHIE former member, dorking-upon-thistle road club
