I think Mr Baylis is right on with this one. Bicycle technology has always gone in the directions of lighter weight, gearing options and quality of ride. What more does a serious rider or racer want? I think when you near the end of how light you can make a frame, the traditional frame is still there, just as strong as ever. Doesn't track racing have a big traditionalist following? Those big budget funny bikes don't give you the edge that strong legs and a work ethic do. There are some that go for the aero edge, but there are a lot of traditional track bikes out there. The big companies will likely develop superlight, maintenance-free internally geared rear hubs and light, effective suspension. As "rides better" innovations from the big makers slow, style and craftsmanship become more important. Classy riders want classy bikes.
