Back in 1981 I was working in a shop and we would get TA cranks from Gus Betat (sp?) imports. I remember they came through at that time with the pedal caps as you described. Of course they popped right out the first time you installed the pedals. Does that mean they still made them with the pedal caps in 1981? Hardly! They had probably just been laying around a warehouse for a long time. When something is in production as long as TA cranks and they don't have a date code, well, you're guess is as good as mine!
