Subject: [CR]Swap Meet fun & nametags

Well, I'm trying to keep down the number of posts I make, but one point that I've found, is that seeing and meeting list members is more fun than shopping & selling.

I rode down to Westminster with Glenn Flick whom I met through the ibob list (lives 1/2 mile away) and Gary Musser, met through the Wheelman (antique bikes). Standing in line, Marty Walsh comes out with a box of swag. We go to Wayne Bingham's table to display Glenn's frame (thanks again Wayne) and start browsing. After picking up my selection of swag, I rode back home with Charlie Young.

Well, I kept running into bikies that I've met, wrote to, sold to, bought from, and just read posts from. And not just from the Classic Rendezvous list either, members of the ibob list, the fixed gear list, the tandem@hobbes list, and other lists. Of course, many of us are on multiple lists, but meeting and talking to people that have become friends through bicycle correspondence is wonderful.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to make the special nametags that I promised, but I did take generic ones ("Hello, my name is____") and passed a few out. And a nametag I've found is a very important accessory. I'm very bad with names and faces, but when I'm wearing a tag, several listers have said, "Hi Roy, I'm ... from the list, how are you doing?" And through the day, from stress and excitement I'll forget names, but a nametag refreshes my memory, I sure it does yours too.

Now there's some who think nametags are tacky, but I can't remember their names... <G>. But others have thanked me at swap meets, rides and the Cirque for bringing them. Of course once you meet some members like Jill, Larry, or Curtis, you can't forget them, but some of us (like me!) tend to blend into the background without the assistance of a nametag. And without nametags I've heard questions like, "Who's the guy with the red bike?" when he's 10 feet away. So I have a nametag on at events I go to, I'll be sure to have some nametags for others at future events, I'll just have to pick up ink before Saturday night ;^)

By the way, future events are a swap meet in State College, PA on the 16th of March (beat you to it, walt!), a ride at my place in April, and the Cirque in May
