May I direct attention to the WANTED list, or would that be redundant? I need a 27x 1 and a quarter 40-hole rim,, new or used.
The nice thing about the web is that you can pretend to have a perfect museum quality period bike and nobody but your hairdresser knows for sure. Of the CR 500, I wonder how many such bikes there are Really. Our mouths and our hearts are in the right place, but the bearing balls and the chain links are at best clones of the real thing -- at least if you ride your antique. I also collect cameras, and though scarcity rules the price lists, the really satisfactory high end cameras were seldom rare. It was the badly engineered ones that went out of production early. Everybody loves a Cord 810, but they are rare because the transmission was a disaster. The fact that most fine framebuilders used proven components with standardized threads etc. is one of the attractions of classic bicycles. Is it OK to ride a 1960 bike with a 1975 derailleur, or does that spoil it? Probably the BUILDER of the frame would have preferred the better design had it been available. So do you trash the Suntour GT in favor of a Cyclo because of vanity or is it called principle? Answer from Lewis Carrol: "It's his fancy, that."
