Jerry passed away a couple of years ago. The shop started out as "People's Goods and Tools", a cooperative not for profit, hardware and general store which carried bike parts. Shortly after Jerry became manager, he changed the name to "The Freewheel" and it became a bike shop, still a co-op. The Freewheel still exists, largely unchanged, with classes, shop area and tools available for members, although today, I'd say it's clientele is more messengers and bicycle activists rather than racers. The address is 1920 Hayes St, phone 415 752-9195.

Does anyone know what ever became of Jerry, the owner of "Peoples' bike and tool" in San Francisco"? He used to attract a pretty fair crowd of racers in his shop during the early 80's. He taught classes on how to work on your own bike, ordered parts and invited everyone in for informal chat. He was just North of the Panhandle Park and a real fan of Eisentraut.
