Jan,

Speaking of special orders for wheels with Scheeren rims; I have a 1971 Masi Gram Criterium which I bought from the original owner a few years ago. I first saw this bike in 1972 and the bike never had any changes made since that time. The owner ordered the bike from John's Bike Shop in Pasadena, CA and specified Scheeren Weltmeister rims. The bike arrived direct from Italy completely assembled with the Scheeren rims as ordered; except he always claimed the were on 28 hole hubs. When I took possesion I noticed they were actually 36 holes, which is more in line of what is typical for Masi. The old gentleman never realized that the 28 hole wheels he ordered came in as 36 holes!

The Weltmeister is a light rim but back in my day there was acceptance amongst time trialists and light road riders of the Weltmeister rim for "special" road use. I'll bet there aren't too many original condition Masi Gran Criteriums with factory built Scheeren wheels out there. Here in SoCal the Weltmeister was considered the ultimate lightweight rim back in the early 70's.
