The people on this list are frequently speaking about using copper grease for crank bolt threads, pedal threads etc. I was always surprised that with all my exposure to hardware stores and auto parts stores, I have never come across this stuff. This week , I am redoing the timing belt, water pump, tensioner, and drive belts on my 93 Miata. The manual calls for (you guessed it), copper grease for the backing plate of the timing belt tensioner. After getting puzzled looks from four different auto parts stores, I decided to go to trusty NAPA. They said they never heard of the stuff, so I decided to check the shelves myself. For the record, Copper anti-seize is sold in a small white plastic jar for about $5.00. Nice color and smell, very tasty.

Sorry to report that on this morning' ride the three leaders were astride, a Cologno, a Cologno, and a Pinerrelo....... all up to the minute bikes, made from modern yabbady dab fibrous jaluniom. I drafted for about 6 miles, and decided to pull ahead and let them see my lugged 531. 22.5 miles into the wind, I can do better than that if for no other reason than to prove steel superiority. Good thing they were tired, because today I got a smile, and I hope they weren't smiling at my Look pedals, but at my classic set up. Garth Libre in Surfside Fl.
