Hi Dan,

Gazelle is a large Dutch bike manufacturer. They make everything from roadsters with rod-actuated drum brakes to professional racers. When I lived in Holland in the early '80's, at least a third of all the good road bikes were Gazelles. The good Gazelles were all called "Champion Mondial" and were all built with 531 double butted or better. The model line went something like Semi-Race, AB frame, A frame, AA frame, 753 frame in order of increrasing fanciness. The AA frames at the time had a beautiful seatstay bridge that lookef like a violin bridge. I have a 1982 catalog that also lists frames for track, cyclocross, and motor-paced racing. The motor-paced bike has wooden rims, 24" in the front, 700c in the rear. My own Gazelle is more mundane: a semi-race built up for touring.

I just want to know more. They seem like a second tier name (maybe third tier) but I would look to the experts to say otherwise. thank you for any info you can provide! Dan Tedford
