I always found the best way to describe this is to look for the right amount
of "buoyancy" which will vary with the volume of the tire. You are going to
have to figure this out for yourself in almost every case, but there are
logical starting points. You want a little squish in the tire, for comfort,
less for reduced rolling resistance. Fatter tires need less air than skinny
ones. My recollection is that Paris Roubaix riders with sew ups ran about 80
lbs. of pressure. Supposedly this felt sluggish on the smooth sections but
floated on the cobbles.
